EOTO pt2

EOTO pt 2

During this week’s class, each group had to present their Power Point of terms we received. In number order we all got up to explain each term for the class. Each member of a group had one term to research.  Group 2 presented the five terms Illusory Truth Effect, Confirmation Bias, Gatekeeping, Agenda Setting, and Overton Window. As they summarized their research results we learned an overview of each term. Illusory Truth Effect is when something is said and repeated often enough people start to believe it's true. This leads people to mix up the true and false information. Confirmation Bias is when you look for information that confirms your beliefs. You believe what you want, only trusting in the evidence that supports your view and by throwing out anything that does not. Gatekeeping is when the media chooses what information they want to broadcast. This filters our view by not letting us know everything. Agenda Setting is when the media filter and shape reality rather than reflect it. Media will focus on certain issues which then leads the public perceives those events as important. Overton Window helps to figure out what is possible in politics, it can move, change, and differ throughout. They presented very well, giving us a clear summary of each term they looked into. This will be useful knowledge to have as we go further into our future media careers
